I for one thought Wiggins' comments were spot on. They were directed at a very select group; not his fans, not the press. He was honest without a shred of political correctness about how someone that works hard, plays by the rules and then succeeds is attacked by the anonymous cowards of social media - who stoke the fire without anything to back up their claims other than the viral nature of their vile accusations.

Just what I needed to read. A well written thesis extolling the joy and beauty at the heart of clean pro cycling. Maybe we can believe in this generation, and watching those who struggled to win clean in the 00's now win cleanly will heal us. But psych wounds heal slowly, and all the players in pro cycling, the riders, the teams the law makers, the law upholds and us the fans have to be kind to each other, where harshly prosecuting the remaining cheats. Not an easy objective. So let us use Twitter as a positive vehicle, and not fill riders timelines with, hate, doubt, vitriol and disrespect. But with support, encouragement and gratitude for the gladiatoral spectacle they bring us. Save the comdenation for the guilty and the rightfully accused. Live by this rule, don't tweet what you wouldn't want your Mother to read.

Nick,

I agree that it must be incredibly frustrating, as a clean cyclist (if that is in fact the case), to get the Maillot Jaune and be questioned about whether you are clean.

But, it's right for us to remain skeptical, and it's right for us to ask questions and demand honest answers. How many Tour winners in the last 10 years are uncontroversial? Maybe 1. No more than 3. We still get positive tests. Who supplied those drugs? Who advised on dosages? There is still a doping infrastructure, and there is still a culture of silence. Brad's response reeks too much of omerta for my taste.

Here here! Great post Nick! All valid points. I like Wiggo a lot & am loving the prospect of him & Cuddles & Froome (who i think is the best climber of the three) & I'd love to be innocent again but...why is Geert Lienders Sky's team doctor? I agree it's a generational issue but I think it's more than the riders...it's gonna take a massive systemic generational change that's going to have to happen before our COMPLETE wonder & belief returns. The wonder is back. The belief...? Unmm...not so fast... Like the great mod English band The Who sang, "We won't get fooled again."
