If at least some of the material damaging to the team wasn't true, I don't think that the team would've authorized their legal representative to offer a conditional settlement that denied the aggrieved-party the right to ever speak publicly about what injury he suffered... Or to put it in other terms, why was TT1 offering hush money in exchange for an NDA and no further public discussion of the aggrieved's experiences w/ the org.?

@d crowe

So far all you've offered is name calling and insults without a single word of evidence to support your own opinion.

That seems so very similar to the behavior that Southerland is accused of that it makes me curious.

You're quite rabid in your attacks. Again, curious.

Which parts are"patently false"? Van den Eyndes? Like forcing Willem to sleep on the floor of Phil's hotel room and screaming at him for the heinous infraction of setting his suitcase on the bed, denying him food, testing supplies and medication? Or maybe laughing in his face after refusal of testing supplies?

Stouts? The refusal to pay him for five months? The failure to attain his visa? The failure to help him get testing supplies and medication?

The guys who are so afraid of y . . . Southerland that they don't dare to come forward publicly?

The insurance fraud?

What of the stories out there regarding Southerland living like a king, traveling in style, spending on himself lavishly, while the team tells its riders that it can't afford to pay for them to enter races so they must pay for themselves? Are those "patently false"?

I've stated in my articles that I feel there is more information out there, that the story is incomplete. So, if you think you know something that contradicts or refutes anything in the interview series or in the followup articles, please, share.

I don't doubt that if you're capable of stating your views intelligently and calmly that Claudia will happily grant you space on Cyclismas to express yourself. I know I'd be very happy to oblige you (or someone representing TT1) that space on Bikezilla.

@d crowe Its areal shame you dont use your legal skills to help guys like Stout who get ripped off. Just heard he finally got some money owed seems like "juvenile reporting" does the job!

Nice the way you do not provide any evidence of false statements - prove it.

Between Tom and Martin Hardie theres a fair bit of stuff to disprove.

@d crowe Thanks for your comments, but I feel the need to correct you on something. This is an editorial commentary, i.e., a piece "chock full of the writer's personal opinions." That's the point of editorial commentary. And for your information, there is no liability here as it is all supposition, conjecture, and opinion. Nowhere in this piece are the writer's opinions stated as fact. I suggest you revisit the legal dictionary under the headings "libel," "slander," and "defamation" to reacquaint yourself with the correct terminology. This is NOT an objective piece. That's what the interview of James Stout was. And for the record, we have verified the facts that needed verifying. Good day.

That's one of the worst articles I've seen in awhile - it's chocked full of the writer's personal opinions and he even passes on "rumors" (as he calls them), without bothering to fact check. That is somewhat remarkable, and liable if his "rumors" he passed on turn our to be false. He makes great leaps of faith as to why people don't want to talk to him. I wouldn't want to talk to someone either whose reporting was more like a personal diary rather than an objective piece. And anyone who actually prints rumors with no attempt to verify, and no attempt to credit or name his source, is simply an idiot.

Thank you for taking the time to read and especially to share your opinion.

I'd like to clarify a misunderstanding in your comment.

James Stout did not help with and had no input to this article. The opinion stated in the article is mine.

My interview with James was only one piece of information that factored into that opinion. For me, James story was important because it was the starting point, but I found most of the additional information I came across to be even more damning.

As mentioned several times, it is merely an opinion. As such it carries no more weight than any other opinion, whether they be in agreement with mine or opposed to it.

Best

@Soulbiker12345 Thank you for your comments. I think it's rather glib to suggest that when a rider doesn't get what he wants he rebels. What if the team fails to provide the contract requirements? It is a fact that Team Type 1 has withheld salary rightfully earned by James Stout for the services he provided. This piece is the opinion of the author who spent time interviewing James Stout, and felt so strongly after the interview that he wanted an opportunity to express his feelings. We gave him that opportunity.

Sometimes life is negative. Sometimes life is positive. The terrible part about all of this is that James just wants to race, and Team Type 1 has a love for racing. It's unfortunate that both parties aren't happy about how this relationship ended. If you read the interview with James Stout, you'll find that he had really nothing negative to say about Team Type 1, other than the fact that he wasn't paid his salary. You'll find that he was confused by the actions of certain people on the team, and he's been further confused by the actions of that team's lawyers. It is safe to say that if they paid him his overdue salary, James just might go on his merry way.

We have provided contact emails to representatives from Team Type 1. As Tom discusses, we have yet to receive any emails or responses to James' interview or Tom's article. We would be more than happy to provide them a forum to respond. We're happy to present the other side, and let our readers make up their own minds.

Thanks again for reading, I hope you continue to interact with us -- whether you agree or disagree.
