For those of you who insist on the phrase “witch-hunt” I thought I’d post the historical application to the phrase, and also the characteristics of said phenomena. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch-huntBased on the literal definition of the term, it is in fact Lance Armstrong and his PR people that are engaging in a “witch-hunt” of USADA, as USADA’s action do not reflect a witch-hunt, but a methodical process well within the law recognized by the IOC, USOC. In fact, on Tueday morning, the UCI deferred to USADA’s jurisdiction and declared they would not stand in the way of the action.So, ironically, all of you “Lance Lovers” are doing exactly what happens in a witch-hunt. Emotional responses, declarations of love, of morality, of name calling, and stating that yours truly has “lost his mind.” I appreciate all of you giving me great satisfaction by your actions and negative comments. *chuckle*iankizublair, thank you for your even-handed and rational comments. Great post. I agree USADA has done a great job attempting to bring out the truth on behalf of all those who were hurt by the LA era. If we had financial regulators who did their work this well, perhaps we would have avoided the financial meltdown and recent scandals like the Barclays LIBOR fixing. Here’s my thoughts:Lance Armstrong’s moral transgression is not that he doped, but that he has villainized and tried to destroy anyone who tells the truth about him and US Postal by suing them, calling them liars, etc. I am sickened every time he takes the moral high ground against riders like Floyd Landis and Tyler Hamilton. Meanwhile, UCI has been covering for him for years while attacking other riders and preaching about cleaning up the sport. Lance is an incredible athlete who won 7 Tours doping, while all other top contenders were doping, and who has engaged in a vicious mafia-boss-style cover-up operation for years. He’s no hero. And his charity? It has raised almost half a billion dollars, almost none of which has gone to scientific research into curing cancer. It all goes to “raising awareness,” a nebulous term that includes things like massive promotional collaborations with Nike to sell sporting goods and Lance’s own legal defense and public relations campaign to protect the Livestrong brand.Is he an inspiration to many? Yes. And that would be fine with me except for all the collateral damage and hypocritical moralizing. I don’t really care that he doped, I care about everything he’s done since then to hide it.

Leave Lance be! I’m going to organise a mass round the world ride that will start off from Sydney and end at USADA’s door. With the might of right on our side we shall prevail in having Lance’s name returned to our hearts, and we can forget his current bedraggled and desperate looking state, and also his preference to act like Obi-Wan Kenobi giving it up, but without the integrity of Old Ben.Who’s with me?

Whether Lance is guilty or not (and come on, you’d have to be naive not to at least have doubts) it doesn’t matter. The UCI and USADA aren’t helping cycling with their recent actions and you’d have to be stupid to think otherwise. Seriously, you think that screwing Lance is going to bring cyclists back to the peloton? You think that you’re promoting the image of a “cleaner peloton” by marring the image of its greatest champion, someone who hasn’t ever been actually proven guilty? Read Lance’s statement on the matter. Sure it was probably written by a bunch of PR guys, whatever, I don’t really care. But it gives you some perspective because he mentions things that the UCI/USADA would never talk about. We all know that Lance won those 7 Tours regardless of who retroactively gets the titles now, just keep that in mind and keep on riding.

Lance is a very cagey guy. I
wonder if he has a plan to undermine the USADA fingdings without
participating in their game. Perhaps, once the USADA is done, a civil
suit for defamation of character? Make them prove the evidence without
their “Witnesses”? This may not be the last word. Ya think? I seriously hope he breaks the backbone of this sham of an agency and completely destroys the reputation of Travis Tygart. Let Travis Tygart go the way of Kenneth Starr.

The USADA got no jurisdiction whatsoever and if the USADA were playing by the written rules in the book, we weren’t be hearing about any of BS at this very moment. A lot of famous cyclists got busted for failing the drug test over the years, but Lance never failed any drug test in his career. Lance in his lifetime has taken more drug test than any other cyclists and probably more than any other athlete in any other sport. But Lance passed every test he ever took. Leave Lance alone and stop the freaking WITCH HUNT!!

When they can show a dirty test from Lance Armstrong then you will have something till then it is just a witch hunt. The man never tested dirty and chose his family and cause over fighting the USADA . This USADA has in my opinion gone to far, wasted to many tax payer dollars for nothing. He is and will all ways be a Champion. The author of this article has completely lost his mind.
